Water the base only

Don’t overwater
Avoid drowning your plant via overwatering it because it can do more harm than good. Place plants in pots that have drainage holes underneath to prevent root rot. If the soil is moist, you don’t have to water it just yet. It’s best to wait until the topmost soil dries out.
Do it in the morning or late evening
Watering your plants should ideally be done in the morning or in the evening. This can help them keep away from losing moisture due to evaporation, as the soil absorbs water in the morning and evening before the sun rises.
Monitor the weather
The amount of water your plant will need may depend on the season. On hot summer days, the plant will require you to water it more. When it is winter, they will need less water since days are typically shorter. So adjust the amount of water you give to your plants depending on the season and weather.
Keep your pots dry
Maintaining the bottom of your pot dry is necessary for the health of your plant. If the pots are soaked and the plant is watered too often, root rot can happen, and the plant could potentially die. To avoid this, use saucers or pots that have drainage holes to keep them dry after watering. Empty the plates during rainy seasons to prevent your plant from drowning or forming root rot.
