BJP’s Yeddyurappa takes oath as a CM of Karnataka

BJP - Yeddyurappa

KARNATAKA:

BJP’s BS Yeddyurappa took oath as the Karnataka chief minister on Thursday morning. He took oath as the 23rd Chief Minister of the state Karnataka. This comes after the Supreme court refused the plea by the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) to stop the ceremony. The Supreme court has said the petition will be heard on Friday. The Supreme court took the hearing late on Wednesday night. This comes after the Congress and ally JD(S) challenged Governor Vajubhai Vala’s decision to invite the BJP to form the government in the state. But the formation of government in the state would be “subject to the outcome of the case”. Within hours after becoming a Chief Minister Mr Yeddyurappa has ordered the transfer of four IPS officers and one IAS officer.

Congress filed a petition against governor Vala’s decision at around 10pm. The court has started hearing at 2 am and it is ended at around  5.30 am. The bench said it would not stop the BS Yeddyurappa oath ceremony today. The bench has formed with three judges. Bench constituted with Justices Ashok Bhushan, SA Bobde and AK Sikri. In the recent Karnataka elections, BJP has emerged as the largest party with 104 seats in the 224-member assembly. The Congress has won 78 seats and the Janata Dal (Secular) 37.

Both Congress and BJP parties have raised their effort to achieve the power. But the governor Vajubhai Vala has invited the Yeddyurappa to form the government in the state. The governor gave Yeddyurappa 15 days to prove his majority. BJP requires eight more seats to get the majority.

Congress has decided to conduct state-wide dharnas at district headquarters and in all the state capitals on May 18 to protest against the governor Vala’s decision to invite Yeddyurappa to prove majority. Congress spokesperson Randeep said that Mr Yeddyurappa would be a Karnataka CM for one day.

DELHI:

The ruling BJP on Thursday taunting UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi by saying that her math’s weak. Parliamentary Affairs Minister  Ananth Kumar said Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s “maths weak. Kumar said, “who says we don’t have the numbers”. He also said NDA definitely wins in the no-confidence motion as the BJP government has enough numbers to get the majority outside and inside the Parliament. This no-confidence motion will be held in Lok Sabha on Friday.

Ananth Kumar said Sonia Gandhi’s math is weak and her calculations are wrong. They had calculated similarly in 1996. But we all know what happened then. Again their calculations will become wrong. You will see how Modi will get support from all the sides, he added. He also quoted the Sonia Gandhi’s statement in 1999. She said they have the support of 272 members and more are coming. But what happened then, Atal Bihari Vajpayee the BJP government was defeated with the difference of one vote. Even though the Congress party could not form the government.

The Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) move the no-confidence motion on the BJP on Wednesday. The Congress party also seems confident about the no-confidence motion. They said they will win in this motion. She said we have enough number of support to win the no-confidence motion.

Kumar said definitely we defeat the Congress in the no-confidence motion. We are also getting the support from the Shiv Sena party. NDA is expecting the support of at least 312 members to defeat the Congress in the 535-member Lok Sabha. Alone BJP has 273. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will conduct the voting on Friday.

The opposition is ready to throw the arrows on the government on the basis of issues like mob lynching, the safety of women, Jammu and Kashmir, the plight of farmers etc.
