Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan, and has been climbed by many people. The mountain is located in the Kantō region of Honshu, which is one of the main islands of Japan. Mount Fuji is part of a volcanic and seismic zone, which means that it is prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The mountain is also home to several glaciers, which are melting at an alarming rate due to global warming.
Mount Fuji has four summits: Shichirigahama (3776m), Yamanashi (3776m) Nagaoka (3891m) Kirifuri (3900m). Mount Fuji can be climbed year-round, although very cold weather can render some parts of the trail dangerous or impossible to pass through.
All four of these routes start from the same point: Kawaguchiko Station on Mount Fuji Railway. The trains run from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko Station every 20 minutes during the summer months and every 30 minutes during the winter. The train ride takes about one hour and fifty minutes round trip.
To reach Mount Fuji by train or bus, you will have to go to Tokyo (about five hours away). The train ride takes about two hours, while buses take about three hours and 45 minutes, depending on the route (the bus line is called “Fujiyama”).
The most popular way to reach Mount Fuji is on foot from Shizuoka City, which is about an hour’s walk away from Shizuoka Station. If you are traveling by car, the best way is to head for a parking lot that has a restaurant and a souvenir shop located near it; this will save you some time because there are not too many signs directing people where they need to go when they get off the train. Mountains like Everest, k2, broad peak, Annarpurna, Ama Dablam, Manaslu and Aconcagua are difficult to climb comparing with Fuji.
